Canadian Medical Association Demolition
The images included in this demolition gallery were taken after the completion of the demolition of the Canadian Medial Association’s National Headquarters (also known as CMA House) on April 30, 2017. The demolition occurred primarily due to the lack of space within the building and its addition and the desire for the CMA to remain close to the Ottawa Hospital’s General campus and the collection of other medically-related organizations that are located in the area.
The building’s location makes it outside of the typical areas of the city that receive higher attention for heritage designations and lesser building protection, which is unfortunate as the building possessed a high degree of design quality, was a relatively unique example of a building clad in Corten steel and its exterior appeared to have aged well.
Buildings such as CMA House deserve greater attention from the heritage and architectural community as smaller, but very well detailed structures from the modern era.
